Final Exam Results (Scores are in!)

The exam is, finally, in the books, and the course grades are set. It took 6 graders and a total of 67 hours of grading, spread over two and a half very exhausting days, to get to this point. The median score was 55 points, the average 52.4; the final was curved with cutoffs of 65/45/30/15 for A/B/C/D. Solutions can be found under this link. Final exam scores and course grades can be accessed as usual. The grade shown at the end of the score display as "average" (including plusses and minuses) is your course grade. See the Final Exam Information Sheet and the Course Information Sheet for detailed explanations of the score display and the grading policies. Enjoy your break!

Lecture Summaries and Homework Assignments

Lecture-by-lecture summaries listing the section(s) and topics covered in the lecture, examples from the text recommended for study, material from the text that can be skipped (if any), and the daily homework assignments.

Homework assignments and solutions

Almost all of the assigned problems are odd-numbered problems for which answers (though not detailed solutions) can be found in the back of the book. You can use these answers to check your work for correctness, though the answers won't help if you didn't get a problem. Below are links to detailed solutions that I have written up, using the methods, terminology, and notation from the lectures. I will post solutions within few days of each assignment and ahead of any quiz or exam that depends on the material covered in the assignment. Note that the solutions are provided as scanned pdf files; some of these may be quite large.
