The final exam has been graded and the grades have been posted via the Score Reports. I will submit grade rosters on Tuesday, December 19.

If you wish to discuss you final grade and/or look at your final exam, you have to do it on Monday, December 18 during my office hours (Keep in mind that a slightly higher curve was used when assigning final course grades, as compared to the table at the bottom of this page).

The Final exam will take place on Saturday, December 16, 1:30-4:30pm in our regular classroom. See more information about the final exam here.
There will be a review session on Thursday, December 14, 3-4pm, Altgeld Hall 141. I will also have regular office hours on Wednesday, Dec 13 and Friday, Dec 15 next week (but not on Monday, Dec 11.)
You are allowed to use a calculator and one two-sided sheet of notes during the final.

It is very important that you check all your Score Reports scores for completeness and correctness NOW, before the date of the final exam. If you have any disputes regarding your h/work, quiz or midterm exam grades, you must talk to me before the final exam and settle all these dispute before the final exam. There is still time to do it, as I will have regular office hours on Friday, December 15. No appeals on these issues will be entertained after the final exam!

The deadline for submitting grade rosters is Tuesday, December 19. I will grade the final exams on Sunday and post the grades via the Score Reports.
You will have one day, namely Monday, December 18 to come and look at you finals and discuss the final exam grades. I will hold regular office hours on Monday exclusively for that purpose.  I will be extremely unlikely to consider any requests for a change in the course grades AFTER the grade roster is submitted to the registrar.

My office hours are Monday, Wednesday 4:10pm-5:30pm and Friday 11am-12noon. You DO NOT need to tell me in advance if you want to see me during the office hours. If you want to come at a different time, you need to schedule an appointment. My office is located in Illini Hall, room 328.

The FINAL EXAM for this course is currently scheduled for 1:30-4:30 PM, Saturday, December 16. I have made a determined effort to schedule the final exam at an earlier time but it turned out to be quite impossible due to the Math Department policy on the matter. I have also already received requests from close to a third of the class to give them "conflict" exams earlier than December 16. In fact NONE of the people who made these requests had what the university considers a "conflict" in their exam schedule. Rather I was presented with a variety of personal reasons why people would like to take the exam at an earlier time. Since I cannot give special treatment to any particular individuals in this class (if I grant one such request, I would be obligated to do the same for the others which will probably mean about a half of the class) ALL FUTURE REQUESTS FOR "CONFLICT" EXAMS ARE NOW SUMMARILY REJECTED, unless you have a official scheduling "conflict" according to the university policy. PLEASE, make the appropriate travel arrangements now. Once again, no further requests for "conflict" exams from people who don't have an official "scheduling conflict" will be considered! The official university policy regarding final exam "scheduling conflicts" can be found here.

The following materials are available:

All Homework Problems will be collected and graded. The Homework assigned during a week is due on Wednesday of the following week. Late homework is generally NOT ACCEPTED. At the end of the course your lowest weekly homework grade is dropped.

How this course is graded.

The dividing lines (in % out of 100%) for the exam grades will be:

A+ A A- B+ B B- C+ C C- D+ D D- F
94-100 90-93 87-89 84-86 80-83 77-79 74-76 68-73 62-67 57-61 54-56 50-53 0-49

For the first exam the median score was   79% and the mean score was  79.4%
For the second exam the median score was 87.5% and the mean score was  83.0%
For the third exam the median score was 88% and the mean score was  85.0%

There will be three one-hour exams during the semester. At the end of the term the lowest hourly exam grade is dropped. The two remaining grades contribute a maximum of 100 points  each towards your course total (approximately 15%).
The final exam contributes a maximum of  200 points to the course total  (approximately 30%).
The homework counts as at most 200 points of your course total (approximately 30%). Two low h/work scores will be dropped.
The quizzes contribute a maximum of 75 points to  your course total (approximately 11%). The lowest quiz grade will be dropped
Thus your maximum course total is 100+100+200+200+75=675 points. Your course total will determine your final grade for the course.
A modest number of "extra credit" points may be assigned for active class participation.

For each of the midterm exams and for the final exam you are allowed to use:

No textbooks or lecture notes are allowed on the exams.
The final exam will be cumulative and will include all the material covered during the course.
