Location

University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Coordinated Science Lab (rooms 301 and 351)
(in the middle of the block bounded by University and Springfield Avenues and Wright Street and Mathews Avenue). Here is a map.

Arrival by car. Champaign-Urbana is at the intersection of I-72, I-74 and I-57.
From I-72 east: the interstate terminates eastbound at Champaign, and turns into University Avenue. Follow it through downtown Champaign, under the railroad tracks, and past First Street, Second Street etc. until Sixth Street. The next street is Wright Street and the one after that is Mathews. Turn south on Mathews and then follow the "parking" directions below.
From I-74 East or West: exit south on Lincoln Avenue. Drive south and then turn west onto University Avenue, then south onto Mathews Avenue, and then follow the "parking" directions below.
From I-57 North or South: 1. Exit east onto University Avenue (same as I-72 East), then follow the directions above. 2. Alternatively, exit onto I-74 East and follow the instructions above.
Parking The best option is the university's parking structure at the corner of University Avenue and Mathews Avenue (the closest entrance is off Mathews, and another entrance is one block east off Goodwin). Parking in this structure is free on weekends. Or, you can park at metered spaces on the street, or in the open-air municipal lot on Sixth Street between Healey and Green Streets (entrances on Healey and Green).

Arrival by train or bus. Amtrak has three trains per day from the north (Chicago) and from the south (Carbondale), to Champaign. Greyhound offers bus service from Chicago, St. Louis and Indianapolis. Lincolnland Express offers shuttle service from Midway, O'Hare and Indianapolis airports. All these services drop you at the "Illinois Terminal" in Champaign (though Lincolnland will also drop you at campus, on request). From there, catch almost any eastbound or southbound city bus ($1; ask the driver whether the bus will go near campus) or else take a cab.

We anticipate most participants will drive home at the end of the day. But if you wish to stay overnight, you could try the Illini Union, on campus, on the south side of Green Street just east of Wright Street, reservations: 217-333-3030. Or try the Hampton Inn, 1200 W. University Avenue (in Urbana), very close to the meeting site, reservations: 217-337-1100 (or 800-HAMPTON).
Many other hotels are within a 15 minute drive of campus e.g. Comfort Inn (217-352-4055), Holiday Inn (217-328-0328), Days Inn (217-356-6873).

Registration and Financial Support

There is no registration fee, but we do ask that you tell an organizer (preferably a week in advance) that you intend to come, so that we can order a boxed lunch for you. There is limited travel support available for speakers, postdocs and graduate students (but no support for air travel).
