Duties of the Associate Chair
Robert G. Muncaster (Dr. Bob)
Responsible for the Teaching Mission of the Department
- Teaching Assignments
- 300 courses to staff (standalone and recitation)
- 120 grading assignments (5 hrs each)
- 130 TAs to assign, 100 faculty (permanent, postdocs, visitors) to assign
- teaching preferences are collected each semester electronically
- Teaching Assessment
- each semester TA performance in each of teaching, recitation,
grading is assessed by faculty supervisors
- assessments are important to future teaching assignments,
letters of recommendation
- Teaching Facilitation
- assign newer students to the TA mentoring program
- oversee and provide for uses of technology in the classroom
One-person Personnel Department
- 273 Altgeld Hall - my door is always open
- issues concerning troublesome students
- cheating cases
- students complaining about instructors
- complaints by and about faculty
