Responsible for the Teaching Mission of the Department

• Teaching Assignments

  • 300 courses to staff (standalone and recitation)
  • 120 grading assignments (5 hrs each)
  • 130 TAs to assign, 100 faculty (permanent, postdocs, visitors) to assign
  • teaching preferences are collected each semester electronically

• Teaching Assessment

  • each semester TA performance in each of teaching, recitation, grading is assessed by faculty supervisors
  • assessments are important to future teaching assignments, letters of recommendation

• Teaching Facilitation

  • assign newer students to the TA mentoring program
  • oversee and provide for uses of technology in the classroom

One-person Personnel Department

• 273 Altgeld Hall - my door is always open
• issues concerning troublesome students
• cheating cases
• students complaining about instructors
• complaints by and about faculty
