CENTER FOR ADVANCED STUDY DEADLINES

  1. Appointment of Associates in the Center for Advanced Study, 1999-2000.
    Application Deadline: Monday, October 12, 1998.

  2. Nomination of Fellows in the Center for Advanced Study, 1999-2000.
    Nomination Deadline: Monday, February 8, 1999.

  3. Nomination of George A. Miller Visiting Professors and Scholars in the Center for Advanced Study, 1999-2000.
    Nomination Deadlines: Tuesdays, October 13, 1998 and April 20, 1999.

  4. Proposals for the MillerComm99 Lecture Series.
    Proposal Deadlines: 12:00 PM, Mondays, October 19, 1998; November 23, 1998; February 15, 1999; May 3, 1999; July 12, 1999.

  5. Proposals for The Annual Beckman Research Lecture.
    Proposal Deadline: Tuesday, October 13, 1998.

Copies of guidelines for individual programs are available upon request from the Center for Advanced Study, 333-6729 or through the web site. In addition to these five programs, the Center also initiates and co-sponsors a variety of interdisciplinary activities, discussion groups, and workshops during the academic year. Center for Advanced Study professors are permanent members of the Center for Advanced Study community, chosen for their outstanding scholarship. Apppointment to a professorship in the Center for Advanced Study is the highest recognition that the campus can bestow upon a member of the faculty. There are currently seventeen Center for Advanced Study professors.

It is not possible yet to add new records to the new library database system. The most recent set of new books received can be viewed here. This list can be searched by various methods; for example, by Mathematics Library or by call number range within the Mathematics Library. These books will be added to our New Book Shelf and circulated normally. If you have any problems finding the materials you need, please ask our library staff for assistance.

RARE BOOK RECEIVED:
A few years ago, an unpublished Einstein manuscript on special relativity was auctioned off and then donated to the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. A facsimile of the manuscript with an English translation on facing pages was made available. Nancy Anderson requested a copy to be included in the UIUC Rare Book Room collection. She thought you may wish to look at it and reports it is truly beautiful.

Aug.31-Sep.11 Registration of part-time nondegree students without penalty.
September 1 4:30 PM Deadline to suppress directory information.
September 4 Last day for undergraduate students to add a first half-session course.
September 7 Labor Day - All-Campus Holiday.
September 11 5:00 PM Deadline for undergraduate and graduate students to reduce program and receive refund if moving to a lower credit range; 5:00 PM Deadline for undergraduate students to add a semester course.
September 18 12:00 PM Payment due; Last day for graduate students to add a first half-session course.
September 25 Last day for undergraduate students to drop a first half-session course and to elect credit-no credit or to change credit-no credit to regular grade basis in a first half-session course.
October 9 Last day for graduate students to add a semester course and to drop a first half-session course.
October 21 Second half-session courses begin (nontraditional courses may begin earlier or later).
October 23 Last day for undergraduate students to drop a semester course and to remove an Ex grade from the previous semester to prevent a change to an E grade and to elect credit-no credit or to change credit-no credit to regular grade basis in a semester course.
October 29 Midsemester grades mailed to freshmen.
October 30 Last day for undergraduate students to add a second half-session course.
November 2 Early registration for spring 1999 begins.
November 6 Deadline for undergraduate and graduate students to withdraw from the University and receive the minimum 40% pro-rata refund.
November 13 Last day for graduate students to add a second half-session course.
November 20 Last day for undergraduate students to drop a second half-session course and to elect credit-no credit or to change credit-no credit to regular grade basis in a second half-session course; Last day for graduate students to drop a semester course.
Nov. 24-29 Thanksgiving recess begins 5:00 PM Tuesday.
Nov. 26-27 Thanksgiving - All-Campus Holidays.
December 4 Last day for graduate students to drop a second half-session course.
December 11 Last day of instruction.
December 12 Reading day (no classes, no final examinations).
Dec. 14-19 Final examination period.
