Some Personal Views about Pure and Applied Science and Mathematics and the Teaching of Mathematics

During the last fifty years there have been various different expressions about the merits of "Pure and Applied" Science and Mathematics from the funding agencies, the Universities' administrations and other entities. I would like to express a "balanced" view on this subject. Moreover, I believe that these considerations have a strong bearing on the teaching of Mathematics.
