An introduction to Chen's Iterated Integrals

2 p.m., 245 Altgeld Hall

In this talk, I will give an elementary introduction to Chen's iterated integrals and de Rham Theorem for the fundamental group. I will also explain how multiple zeta values occur as special values of iterated integrals and hint at the arithmetic significance of this occurrence.

The Hopf Algebra of Iterated Integrals on the Complex Projective Line

4 p.m., 245 Altgeld Hall

The iterated integrals on a manifold form a commutative algebra. We upgrade the iterated integrals on the complex projective line to more sophisticated motivic iterated integrals, and show that they form a (non-cocommutative) Hopf algebra. We will discuss some applications of the Hopf algebra structure in arithmetic and analysis.
