Homology of linear groups, by Kevin P. Knudson

This is a monograph on the homology of linear groups to be published by Birkhauser this fall. Since it is still under revision, I have included a link to the web page where it may be found rather than depositing a file in the archives. Here is the list of chapters.

I. Topological methods (Quillen's calculations for finite fields, etc.)

II. Stability (homological stability for linear groups, including results of van der Kallen, Suslin, etc.)

III. Low-dimensional results (scissors congruence, the Bloch group, etc.)

IV. Rank one groups (explicit computations for SL₂ over various rings)

V. The Friedlander-Milnor Conjecture (theorems of Friedlander-Mislin, Jardine, Suslin, etc. about the relationship between etale and discrete cohomology)

Please provide any comments you may have. I would like to make this book as good as possible. The current status (2/10/00) is that Chapters II, III, and IV are essentially complete, while Chapters I and V are still being revised.
