Toric varieties with huge Grothendieck group, by Joseph Gubeladze

In each dimension n>2 there are many projective simplicial toric varieties whose Grothendieck groups of vector bundles are at least as big as the ground field. In particular, the conjecture that the Grothendieck groups of locally trivial sheaves and coherent sheaves on such varieties are rationally isomorphic fails badly. Here is a unix shell script that can serve as a netscape helper application for dvi-tar files. This assumes the browser correctly gunzips the file first.
#! /bin/sh
mkdir $TMP
tar xf "$1" -C $TMP || exit 1
(cd $TMP; for i in *.dvi; do xdvi $i; done)
rm -rf $TMP
