Current Professional Interests and Projects

I am currently developing mathematics courses, course modules and class materials for delivery via the Internet and/or other distance information delivery technologies to the following two audiences:

• Mathematics teachers at the 9 - 14 grade level who are interested in professional development opportunities. Math Teacher Link is the website to find out more about this program.

• Graduate engineers and scientists who are interested in applied mathematics courses or course modules, either for use as part of a masters degree program or for their professional development. I completed a Web-based version of the course: Math 488: Mathematical Methods in Engineering, in 2001 and revised and updated it in 2005. I am currently working on Web-based versions of Math 484: Nonlinear Programming and Math 446: Applied Complex Variables. I expect to offer these two courses for the first time in 2006.

In 2003, I completed a course development and textbook project "High School Mathematics from an Advanced Standpoint" funded by the Stuart Foundation. The other co-authors for the project are: Zalman Usiskin of the University of Chicago, Richard Stanley, of the University of California at Berkeley, and Elena Marchisotto of the California State University at Northridge. The project textbook "Mathematics for High School Teachers-An Advanced Perspective", was published in 2003 by Prentice-Hall. This textbook is designed for pre-service and in-service mathematics teachers at the high school level.
