Our Department is the focus of most mathematical activities on campus and plays an important role in interdisciplinary activities involving Mathematics. Academic program goals are as follows: faculty devotion to the creation and transmission of mathematical knowledge faculty promotion of first-class research in many important branches of Mathematics aim for world class research in the areas of its greatest strength emphasize the importance of undergraduate education broaden its traditional basis in graduate education by preparing more students for careers in non-academic settings provide postdoctoral training in Mathematics as a preparation for careers in a research university
