Academic Program Goals

Our Department is the focus of most mathematical activities on campus and plays an important role in interdisciplinary activities involving Mathematics.

Academic program goals are as follows:

  • faculty devotion to the creation and transmission of mathematical knowledge
  • faculty promotion of first-class research in many important branches of Mathematics
  • aim for world class research in the areas of its greatest strength
  • emphasize the importance of undergraduate education
  • broaden its traditional basis in graduate education by preparing more students for careers in non-academic settings
  • provide postdoctoral training in Mathematics as a preparation for careers in a research university
