Academic Program Goals
Our department is the focus of most mathematical activities on campus and plays an important role in interdisciplinary activities involving mathematics.
Academic program goals are as follows:
- faculty devotion to the creation and transmission of mathematical knowledge
- faculty promotion of first-class research in many important branches of Mathematics
- aim for world class research in the areas of its greatest strength
- emphasize the importance of undergraduate education
- broaden its traditional basis in graduate education by preparing more students for careers in non-academic settings
- provide postdoctoral training in Mathematics as a preparation for careers in a research university
