If you are using Octave, click here for installation instructions.

Start Matlab, copy and paste the following line to your Matlab prompt, and hit Return:

This line will launch Iode's installation script.¹ The installation script will ask you to enter an installation directory for Iode. If you simply hit Return without entering anything, Iode will be installed in your current working directory. I recommend that you enter a new directory, such as my_iode. The rest of the installation does not require any further input.

Enter iode (all lower case) at the prompt in order to launch Iode. If you are using a sufficiently recent version of Matlab (6.0 or later), you'll see a graphical user interface, otherwise you'll see a text menu.

The user interfaces barely scratch the surface of Iode. We would like to encourage everybody to study the code and modify and extend Iode. The documentation page is a good place to start.

Post-installation

Unix

Once the installation is complete, there is nothing more to do. In the future, when you want to work with Iode, make sure that you cd into your Iode directory before starting Matlab. (Your Iode directory contains a crucial initialization script for Iode that Matlab will execute when it is launched. Without this initialization, Iode will not work!)

Mac OS X

Matlab under Max OS X should be fairly similar to Matlab under Unix. If you run into trouble, please let me know!

Windows

Create a new shortcut icon for Matlab.² Right-click on your new shortcut icon and select Properties from the context menu. Enter your Iode directory in the Start in field. In the future, when you want to work with Iode, use the new icon to launch Matlab.
