The structure of the final exam will be as follows -
Four free response application problems, 10 points each, focused on the four of the following methods:

- solving an optimization problem (2D graphical method)
- solving an optimization problem (simplex method)
- solving a linear combo problem (possibly multisystem, possibly basis selection)
- solving a Leontief problem
- solving a Markov problem
- solving a projection/least squares problem
Approximately 30 multiple choice questions, 2 points each, covering uniformly the topics:
- Region of feasibility and method of corner points
- Row operations, REF, RREF, rank, etc
- Matrix algebra: addition, scalar multiplication, product, inverse, etc
- Geometry of lines and planes in R3
- Determinants
- Leontief/Markov
- Subspaces, span, linear independence, null space, column space
- Bases and dimension
- Projections
Be careful that you study your definitions and theorems/properties in addition to applications and methods.
December 5: Scores for midterm exam 3 are now available on score reports.
A curve was applied to the raw exam scores. The raw score appears on the back of the cover page of your exam. Check that the scores on questions have been added up correctly. To compute your curved score, we have applied the formula
curved = raw + 47
This curve moves a raw score of 32.5 (the average) to 78% and a raw score of 53 to 100%. With this curve there were 75 A's (13%), 255 B's (44%), 168 C's (29%), 66 D's (11%), and 17 F's (3%).
The key for exam 3 has been posted to the exams page.
December 4: Homework 8 has been posted. It is NOT to be handed in. It is meant to give you some practise problems for the last material covered in class. The solutions to this homework 8have also been posted.
December 2: There has been a delay in developing a curve for the exam, but it will be annouced here later today. Stay tuned.
November 28: A revised version of the empty lecture notes, Part 2, and the filled in lecture note, Part 2, have been posted on the site. In particular, section 5.3 has been added/revised.
November 21: Homework 7 has been posted.
November 15: Dr Bob's office hours for today have been cancelled. Instead he will hold a second set of office hours on Wednesday form 3 to 4 pm (in addition to the regular 11 am to noon session).
November 14: The room locations for the third midterm (Thursday 7 pm) are shown below. Here is a Campus Map if you need to locate your building.

MAKE SURE THAT "Conflict Exam" IS INCLUDED IN THE SUBJECT LINE.
Homework 6 Solutions have been posted.
November 5: Homework 6 has now been posted.
October 28: Scores for midterm exam 2 are now available on score reports.
A curve was applied to the raw exam scores. The raw score appears on the back of the cover page of your exam. Check that the scores on questions have been added up correctly. To compute your curved score, we have applied the formula
curved = (23/18.5)(raw - 49) + 102
This curve moves a raw score of 30.5 (the average) to 78% and a raw score of 49 to 102%. With this curve there were 87 A's (15%), 207 B's (35%), 173 C's (30%), 85 D's (15%), and 29 F's (5%).
The grading key for exam 2 (version 1) has been posted on the exams page.
October 23: The complete version of Homework 5 has now been posted.

A curve was applied to the raw exam scores. The raw score appears on the back of the cover page of your exam. Check that the scores on questions have been added up correctly. To compute your curved score, we have applied the formula
curved = (3/2)(raw - 31) + 75
This curve moves a raw score of 31 (the average) to 75% and a raw score of 41 to 90%. With this curve there were 89 A's (14%), 173 B's (26%), 184 C's (29%), 132 D's (20%), and 76 F's (11%).
September 21: The TI-Nspire graphing calculator with TI83 keypad will be permitted on exams.
September 19: Homework 3 has been posted. Questions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 will be good practice for the exam.
