COURSE INFORMATION
How it will work: We will
have a lecture twice a week in which you will be exposed to the
material. I will run though the basic definitions and cover a few
examples so that you can then attempt the homework.
Homework: I will assign,
but not collect weekly homework. I highly suggest working the
problems out, practice is the only way to learn anything, let it be
calculus or welding.
Quizzes: Since there is no
graded homework, we will have a quiz each week that there is no
exam. The problems will come from the homework, though I may
change a few of the numbers around, but the quiz problems will not be a
surprised if you've done the homework. These quizzes will be
taken at the end of your recitation hour.
Exams: We'll have three
exams and a final exam. The material covered and exact date for
each exam will be announced in class at least one week prior to the
exam day.
Final Exam: The final exam
is 7:00–10:00 PM, Thursday,
December 14.
Recitations: This is a
great time for you to ask questions on the homework and anything else
in the course. If you are struggling with something, most likely
someone else is too, so speak up. These things work best if
you've already tried to work some of the homework problems and got
stuck, thus you familiar enough with it and not just copying whatever
is written on the board.
Make-up Policy: There
are no make-up quizzes or exam unless there is a note from an emergency
dean. If such a situation occurs, the exam will be taken first
and then counted when the official letter is received.
Grading Issues: If there is a clear grading error on a test or
quiz, ask your TA to fix it. These include things like
miscounting the total score on the exam. For other inquiries,
please write the problem number that you wished to be re-evaluated on
the reverse side of the exam or quiz and then leave it on the front
table after lecture. I will look it over and decide on what to
do. There is a time limit for resolving grading issues, it is one
week after the exam is returned, after that it's too late.
School Sponsored Trips:
If you know you willing be traveling (for school sponsored trips only)
during the semester, please obtain a travel itinerary early in the
semester so we can plan on when to take exams.
Cheating: Cheating
will not be tolerated under any circumstances. If you are caught,
I will do all I can to get your expelled from the university.
Thus we will enforce a strict code during exam time. There will
be no phones, no calculators and hats of any kind must be
removed. All backpacks, notebooks and textbooks must be under
your seat during test time. You may not use your own scratch
paper, if you need extra paper for your work, it will be supplied to
you.
