Grading:

Your grade for the course will be determined by a weighted average of your scores for homework, midterms and a final.   The weights of each will be:
Homework      =   10%
Midterm1        =   25%
Midterm2        =   25%
Final                =   40%

Homework will be  posted at this website.  A (small) subset will be graded.

Exams

There will be two midterms and a final exam. Dates and syllabi will be announced at least one week in advance. 

The (tentative) dates for the midterms are Thursday September 29 and Thursday November 3.


Midterm 1

When:  Thursday September 29 (in the usual class hour)

On What: Sections 1.1 - 1.7, and 2.1

Solutions

Average Grade: 58/75= 77%


Midterm 2

When:  Thursday November 10 (in the usual class hour)

On What: Sections 2.2, 2.3, 3.1-3.3, 4.1-4.3

Solutions

Average Grade:  57/77= 75%


Final

When:  Friday December 16, 8:00-11:00 am

On What: Everything we did in class, i.e. Sections 1.1 - 1.7, 2.1-2.3, 3.1-3.3, 4.1-4.3, 4.5, 4.6, 5.1-5.3, 6.1-6.2

8/25/05:   Welcome to the class!

8/29/05:   Homework 1 is due on Thursday (September 1), not tomorrow

9/22/05:   The first midterm is next Thursday, i.e. September 29. It will cover sections 1.1-1.7 and section 2.1. Calculators will not be needed, and hence not permitted.

9/29/05:   There is no new homework due next Thursday (October 6). The next Homework set will be assigned next week and will be due on October 13.

10/24/05: 

·        There is no new homework due on Thursday (October 27). The next homework set will be due on Tuesday November 1. 

·        The second midterm will be on Thursday November 10 (NOT on Thursday November 3)

11/3/05:  Homework 10 covers section 4.3, i.e. material included in the syllabus for Midterm 2.  Please look at it before the test, but you don’t need to hand it in until the following Tuesday.

12/14/05: The syllabus for the final exam covers everything we did in class,  i.e.: Sections 1.1 - 1.7, 2.1-2.3, 3.1-3.3, 4.1-4.3, 4.5, 4.6, 5.1-5.3, 6.1-6.2 .
