The first few weeks of the semester will cover most of Hatcher's Notes on Basic 3-Manifold Topology, covering examples of 3-manifolds, Kneser's prime decomposition theorem, JSJ decomposition, loop and sphere theorems.
I would like every student to give at least one presentation in class. Topics for presentations include, but aren't limited to, this list.
