Annoucements

June 15

Classroom is now changed to AH147.

Note the revision of HW1. It will be due at the BEGINNING of class on Friday. No homework will be accepted after 9:15.

June 18

-Starting today, new office hour will be 2-3 pm on TUESDAY, and 11-12 am on THURSDAY

-Letter grade breakdown are:

A: 90 or above, B: 80-89, C: 70-79, D: 60-69, F: Below 60.

However, these scores are relative (ie. Curved), not absolute.

-Homework are VERY important!! They are sources for exam problems. You should be sure how to do each of them, including optional ones.

KNOWING HOW TO DO THEM IS MUCH MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN GETTING HIGH SCORES ON THEM.

June 22, 2009

On HW2, don’t worry about problems on 6.4. Turn them in on Friday along with HW3.

June 26, 2009

Exam 1 Info has been posted here. Note that I have NOT yet determined the location: the person in charge of it won’t be back until Monday. I will make sure it is in Altgeld Hall. For those students not enrolled, you can take the exam if you want. I will still grade them. But your scores will play no role in curving. Check announce on June 18 for numerical score vs. letter grade.

June 29, 2009

Exam I will take place in our classroom Altgeld 147. Unfortunately, I can’t find any larger room available room in Altgeld. The room might be a little small for taking exam. Please help me by trying to keep your eyes on your on exam, so there is no reason for suspicion for me.

July 7, 2009

I will use about 30 minutes of discussion session tomorrow (July 8) to talk about precise definition of limit. If I can’t finish answering your homework questions in the remaining 20 minutes, please utilize Thursday office hours.

July 21, 2009

Information on exam 2 can be obtained here.

July 23, 2009

There will not be enough material presented to assign homework 10. We will skip homework 10, and homework 11 will be counted twice.

July 28, 2009

Warning for next week: There will be 2 major exams next week: midterm 3 on Wednesday, and final exam on Friday. The planned coverage for exam 3 would be Taylor’s Theorem on remainder, binomial series, 9.1-9.4. Final exam will cover the entire course, so that means all materials from 3 midterms + 9.5 (possibly + 7.1). It will be a difficult and pressured week, so I recommend you start your review early. In particular, Taylor’s theorem is something that usually give students trouble. You should practice and ask questions as much as you can. More info will be posted along the way, and don’t hesitate to come to me for questions.

August 3, 2009

Homework 13, due THURSDAY, will be graded on completion. Exam 3 info can be obtained here.

August 5, 2009

Please read final exam info here. Let me know IMMEDIATELY if you have questions. I will be available whole day until 6pm. If requested, I can make evening available. As for now, study all 13 homeworks! Good Luck!
