I love the theater, and I love writing plays. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to write seriously for several years because I've been so busy with other jobs. However, I continue to go to the theater regularly and plan to return to writing in the near future. These plays are thus all at least four years old, and not, I think, representative of my current writing. That said, lacking current writing to post, I am happy to leave them up for anyone with interest!
Fidgeting is perhaps my best play. It's the story of a father and daughter, following some important moments in their lives. It began as a writing exercise in the first playwrighting class I took, during the fall of 2003. Fidgeting was first produced in the Spring of 2004 by the MIT Dramashop as part of the "Playwrights in Performance" show, an annual show open to submission with an emphasis on producing plays from the "Playwright's Workshop" class at MIT. It was a truly astounding performance.
Written in the spring and summer of 2004, Leaving is a play that's gone through several names and has yet to settle on anything I like. It's about two brothers, separated by an age difference of nine years, the younger of whom is about to head off to college.
Full House was first written (in its nearly final form) in my first playwrighting class. It's only the third play I ever wrote, and I consider it the first I've ever written that was actually good. It's a simple story of four guys playing poker and worrying about a girl. I think it grew past this simple basis to something interesting, with many nice contrasts throughout the play.
