Midterm 2: November 2, in class. Counts for 15% of your grade.
Final Exam: 8:00-11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 13, in room 159 Altgeld. Counts for 40% of your grade.
Test Policies: No books, notes, calculators or computers allowed. Make up tests will be given only if you present written evidence, as soon as possible, that you did (or will have to) miss an exam for a legitimate reason, e.g. illness or family emergency. Travel and leisure plans are never a legitimate reason.
Syllabus: Introduction to vector calculus and functions of several variables. Topics include: partial and directional derivatives, Jacobians, implicit function theorem, change of variables in multiple integrals, maxima and minima, line and surface integrals, theorems of Gauss, Green, and Stokes.
Text: Wilfred Kaplan, Advanced Calculus , 5th edition, Chapters 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Homework: Assignments will be given weekly. Count for 20% of your grade. Solutions should be written up independently and turned in by the deadline for each assignment. Check back this page for actual assignments and deadlines. Solutions will be posted here, if necessary, after the due date. Late homework accepted only if you get an extension from me.
Quizzes: There will one quiz about every two weeks, announced in advance. Check this page for updates. Count for 10% of your grade.
