  • There is a mistake in the solution of problem 4. The correct answer is y=-5e^(3x)+5e^(4x)-3xe^(3x)-1/2x^2e^(3x).

  • Review problems for the final:
  • Ignore the Problem 10 of the review problems. There are typos in the problem 9: change X'(0)=0 to X'(pi)=0 and eigenfunctions are X_n=sin (2n-1)x/2, not sin (2n-1)/2 ( the variable "x" was missing.)

  • Also it will be helpful to go over the previous exams and the quiz problems including the review problems.

• Homework 12: #8, #24 a) of Section 9.5 and Section 9.6.
• I forgot to mention to turn in the problems of section 9.5 in class. So, it is okay to turn in the homework problems only for section 9.6. But you would be better prepared for the exam if you work with the problems 8 and 24 of section 9.5
• Do not just apply the formula in the book. Use separation of variables method to find the solution.
• Due: Wednesday, April 30
• Quiz 9: Section 9.4 and Section 9.5 (Friday, April 25).
• I will ask the similar problem as the problem 10 of section 9.5 for the quiz 9.
• Exam 3: Friday, May 2: Chapter 9 (except 9.7)
