Math 285 Policy

Quiz : Quizzes are given in class on Friday and will be returned on Wednesday. The lowest quiz scores will be dropped in the end. If you do not take a quiz, then it will be counted as zero. No makeup quiz will be given unless you have a proper excuse.

Homework: Homework will be collected on Wednesday and will be returned on following Wednesday. Answer only will not get you any credit since the 'Student Solution Manual' is available. Maximum score on each homework is 20 points - 10 points for trying all the problems and 10 points for grading two specific problems. Note that no late homework will be accepted. The lowest score will be dropped in the end.

Final: There will be 3 hour final exam. The final exam is cumulative. Final exams will not be returned to students. They will be stored in instructor's office for a year.

Partial Credit : For all the quiz, and exam problems you are supposed to write down the right answers together with sufficient work to justify your answers. Partial credits will be given to only sufficiently close work. Right answers without justifying work might not get any credit.

Makeup exam and quiz: No makeup quiz will be given other than special circumstances such as school athletic thing, sickness or family emergency. In any case you will have to provide very detailed written proof of your case and I will check them very carefully to decide the validity of the case. Late wake-up, job interview, attending a wedding/funeral or other person's emergency will not be a proper excuse.

Calculators: You are allowed to use graphics calculators to do homework. However, calculators will not be allowed during quizzes and exams.

Cheating: The mathematics department will not tolerate cheating of any sort. All cheating cases will be handled by Office of the Dean of Students. All the exams and the quizzes will be photocopied before they are returned to students to prevent after-work cheating.
