before asking questions about the grading.

The maximal score score was 100 points and the median 73. Invidividual
scores ranged from 39 to 100.
- Online Scores:
To view all scores you have earned to date, go to this URL (also
linked from the Course Webpage):

The total score shown at the end of the display is the sum of all scores
earned so far. Your course grade will be based on the total score the end
of the semester. If you notice any errors in the score display, such as
an incorrectly entered or missing score, let me know right away and show
me the assignment in question.
-
Letter grade correspondence: Here is an
approximate letter grade correspondence for the total score
shown at the end of the score display (as of Sep. 18, based on HW 1-2,
Exam 1, and a total score of 130): A range (A-, A, A+): 110 or above
(out of 130); B range: 90-110; C range: 70 - 90. (This correspondence is for
your information only and will not directly enter the final grade computation.
It is a snapshot that shows where you currently stand and what your grade
would be if the semester were to end now. There are around 500 more points to
be earned over the rest of the semester, and the point total accumulated at
the end of the semester is what determines your course grade.)
-
Percentage of course grade.
The midterm and the two hw scores earned so far account for 130 points, which
represents about 20 percent percent of the maximal points total at the end of
the semester. For the complete grading policy, see the Course Information Sheet handed out the first week of
class.
-
Grading appeals.
In case of a simple accounting error (e.g., incorrect addition of points,
scores, a missing hw score, or a discrepancy between your score on the
exam and the score on the computer grade report), let me know, and I'll
likely take care of it on the spot. If you have a question about the
grading itself, I'd be happy to take a look. Most errors were not unique
and were graded uniformly; see the exam solutions for notes on some
common mistakes. The deadline for grading appeals for Exam 1 is
Friday, Sept. 24.
