Lecture 21, Wednesday, 10/15/08:
Section 13.4: Surface area
Topics
- Area of a surface z=f(x,y) over region R (formula on top of p. 1068)
Read
Section 13.4. Focus on the examples (for example 4.3, setup only), which
are good illustrations of the techniques for doing double integrals.
You can skip the first part, which gives a formal definition of surface
area and a derivation of the surface area formula. We will get to this
again in a more general context in 14.6 in connection with surface
integrals.
Homework
Section 13.4: 1, 3, 5, 11.
Solutions.
