Exam Statistics

The scores below are all raw scores; the maximal score was 50 points.

Grading Information

Curving: The raw score was converted to a curved score on a 100/90/80/70/60 percent scale as follows: Intermediate scores were converted by interpolating between the above data points. (This was done by the computer grading program.)

Letter grades: The curved scores correspond to letter grades with plusses and minuses as follows:

Note: This letter grade correspondence is for your information only. The grading program uses the more precise numerical scores, not the letter grades, for all internal computations.

Accessing your scores

To access your current scores, go to this URL:
https://www-s.math.uiuc.edu/bluestem/grades.cgi
(There is a link to this site on the main page for this class.) You will be asked to login with your Net-ID and password; this is the same login/password combination that you'd use when you register online. At the end of the score display, an "average" is shown, expressed both as a percentage and as a letter grade (with plusses and minuses). This average represents your current (i.e., pre-final) grade. It was computed by averaging the curved homework grades (with the lowest homework score dropped - the drop score is indicated by a double asterisk (**)), and the exam grades. The average was weighted appropriately to take into account the relative weights of these components towards the course grade: 20 % for hw, 45 % for hour exams. The remaining 35 % come from the final exam. Your course grade will be the grade shown as "average" in the grade display after the final exam scores have been entered and a curve for these scores has been set. Since each grade component was curved individually, no additional curving will be done at this stage.

You can work out what you need on the final to achieve a particular score: If p is your prefinal score, expressed as a percentage, (e.g., p = 88 % = 88/100) and f your final score after curving, then your overall score will be 0.65p + 0.35f. For example, p=88 and f=94 results in an overall score of 0.65 x 88 + 0.35 x 94 = 90.1 which translates into an A-.
