Prerequisites: Math 242, or Math 243, or Math 245, or equivalent

Course Content: The course will cover Chapters 1, 2.1, 2.3, 3.1-3.6, 3.8, 9, and 10.1-10.3 of the text.


Homework: Homework will be assigned weekly and will be collected at the beginning of the class on Thursdays. Selected homework problems will be graded. Late homework will not be accepted.


Quizzes: Eight 10 point quizzes will be given during the semester. Your lowest quiz grade will be dropped in computing your grade.

Exams: There will be 2 in-class exams and a final exam. The final will be comprehensive.

Graphing calculators and laptop/palmtop computers are not permitted on quizzes and exams. Basic scientific calculators are permitted.


Make-up exams are possible only in emergency situations and then only if the instructor is contacted in advance, in person, by phone at the above office phone number, or by email. There will be no make-ups for missed quizzes.


Grading: Your grades will be based on homeworks, quizzes, in-class exams, and a final exam.

Quizzes 70 points
Exams 200 points
Final 150 points
Total 500 points

The homework score will computed by the formula

Homework score = [(points earned)/(points possible)] X 80


Grades will be based on your total points as follows. The instructor reserves the right to raise borderline grades in special situations.


A 467-500 points
A- 450-466 points
B+ 434-449 points
B 417-433 points
B- 400-416 points
C+ 384-399 points
C 367-383 points
C- 350-366 points
D+ 334-349 points
D 317-333 points
D- 300-316 points
F 0-299 points
