221, Fall 2007, Dr. Karen Mortensen, course instructor
DO
Come
to class on time. If, on rare occasion, you must be late, please enter quietly
and sit in the back row.
Stay
for the entire class period. I will end the lecture on time. If, on rare
occasion, you must leave early for another obligation, sit in the back row and
slip out quietly.
Turn off cell phones etc. during class.
Feel free to ask questions during lecture. Please raise your hand
when you would like to speak.
Come to the front of the room after class if you would like to
ask a question or discuss anything with me.
If you believe there has been a grading error on an exam or quiz,
discuss it first with your TA. If that doesn't settle the matter, then explain
the situation in writing and give it to me (Dr. Mortensen) in class or
in my mailbox in 250 Altgeld. The deadline for
all such requests is one week after the exam or quiz has been
returned. Note: this means one week after your TA returned the quiz
or exam, regardless of whether or not you were in class to receive it on that
day.
Contact
me as soon as possible if an unusual, serious situation interferes with your
class work (such as a major illness or family emergency).
Contact me promptly with any concerns you have about the course so
that I can try to address these concerns. If you wait too long, a small problem
may turn into a big problem!
Call
me Dr. Mortensen and ask your TA what he or she would like to be called.
DO NOT
Talk
to others during the lecture. This distracts the instructor and makes it hard for
others to hear the lecture.
Read
the newspaper, etc. during lecture.
Expect
the TA or instructor to give you private tutoring if you miss class. In this
case, it is your responsibility to learn the material from the book.
Cheat on exams in any way. This will result in very serious
consequences.
