Math 230 BL1 – Spring 2006
Dr. Karen Mortensen, course instructor
Instructor
Responsibilities
- Prepare
and give clear, useful lectures.
- Prepare
exams which fairly reflect the material covered.
- Supervise
grading of exams and quizzes.
- Assign
homework which will help students learn the material.
- Respond
promptly to student questions and concerns.
- Assign
course grades.
- Hold
office hours (2 hours per week) for Math 230 students.
TA Responsibilities
- Be
well prepared for each recitation class, ready to answer questions about
the textbook, lectures and homework.
- Help
students understand how to do homework problems (this does not mean doing
the problems for them).
- Grade
quizzes and return them (usually) at the next recitation class.
- Help
grade exams (under supervision of the instructor).
- Record
all grades in “Score Reports”.
- Hold
office hours (2 hours per week) for Math 230 students.
- Communicate
with the instructor on student progress and difficulties.
Student
Responsibilities
- Attend
all lecture and recitation classes.
Arrive on time and stay for the whole class.
- Prepare
for lecture by reading the section of the textbook ahead of time.
- Prepare
for recitation by reviewing lecture notes and working on your homework
ahead of time so you’ll be able to ask questions.
- Keep
up with the work. I recommend
spending one hour per day, six days a week on this course, in addition to
class time.
- When
you have difficulties with the material, see your TA or the instructor
promptly.
- Keep all
of your graded work until after the semester ends.
- Tell
the instructor about any problems with recitation. This will not get the TA into trouble,
but rather will allow the instructor and the TA to improve the situation
promptly.
