Class Attendence

It is expected that you attend each class.

Homework Assignments

There are homework assignments posted on this website. These assignments are selected exercises, mainly from the textbook of the course. These exercises are not to be handed in and will not be graded. However, to succeed in the course it is absolutely essential that you do the exercises on a regular basis. You can view and print these assignments by clicking here.

ALEKS

The UIUC Mathematics Department has incorporated a pre-calculus learning and assessment tool called ALEKS into all of its pre-calculus and beginning calculus courses. This component of the course will be called the UIUC MAP (MAth Assessment Program). Your ALEX score will contribute 5% of your course grade.

Quizzes

A quiz will be given on every Friday which covers the recent material of the classes. The lowest quiz score will be dropped at the end of the semester. The quizzes are worth 16% of your course grade.

Tests

Three 50-minute tests will be given during the evenings at 7 pm of

  • Test 1:   Wednesday, February 13
  • Test 2:   Wednesday, March 12
  • Test 3:   Wednesday, April 16 .
Location of Tests: TBA

Students are expected to take all 3 tests. If necessary, a conflict exam will be offered at 5:30 p.m. on the same exam days. Conflict documention must be presented at least 10 days prior to the exam date. This domumention must verify the other UIUC exam or course that is meeting during our exam. Please note that classes will be cancelled on Fridays, February 15, March 14 and April 18. Make-up tests are possible or the term mark may be prorated, in case when a student misses a test due to illness (supported by a doctore note), extreme personal misfortune or other excused absences as regulated in Part 5 of the Student Code. Please contact immediately your instructor if such a case arises.

It is your responsibility to pick up your marked test in class.

Your tests are together worth 48 % of your final grade for the course.

Final Examination

There will be a 3-hour final exam which is worth 31% of your course grade.

Date & time of final exam: Friday, May 02, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Place of final exam: Room 145 Altgeld Hall

It is your responsibility to be available at the time of the examination.

You should be well-prepared for the final exam if you have worked conscientiously through the term. Be aware that simply cramming for the final exam may interfere with your learning of the subject of MATH 124.

Calculation Scheme of the Course Grade

If you obtain less than 30 % on the Final Examination, your Final Examination percentage will be your final mark in the course: your term mark (from Homework Assignments, Assessed Team Work and Tests) will not be accounted in this case.

If you obtain at least 30% on the Final Examination, then your final mark will be calculated as follows:

Final Exam 31 %
Term Mark 69 % (5% for ALEKS, 16% for Quizzes, 48% for Tests)
