Math 461 Final Exam, Fall 2006

Monday 11 December, 8-11am, worth 40%.
You may not use books, notes, written materials, or electronic devices.

Extra office hour: Friday 8 December, 5:00-5:45pm in my office 376 Altgeld.

Test study session: Sunday 10 December, 2-4pm in 341 Altgeld. Come for as long or short a time as you can.

Material
The entire course. Refer to the information pages for Test 1 and Test 2. The material since Test 2 is:
Sections 6.1-6.5, 6.6 (only as covered in class), 6.7, 7.2 (omit 7.2.1, 7.2.2), 7.4--7.7 (omit 7.7.1), 8.2, 8.3, and all homework on that material.
Use your lecture notes and homework as a guide to the emphasis you should place on the various topics.
Roughly 60% of the Exam will be on the material since Test 2, with about 20% on Test 1 material and 20% on Test 2 material.

How to study

• First summarize the most important ideas, definitions and methods from each section. (This helps you remember the material properly, when you are working through problems.)
• Re-work all homework problems, and do the Exam Preparation problems on the last few sections of the course: 7.7 #75bc; 8.2 #1,2ab; 8.3 #5.
• Work through relevant examples and exercises in the text, and the practice tests.
  CAUTION: some topics covered in class are not used on the practice exams. But they might appear on the exam this semester.
