General Course Information:

This is a survey course of beginning linear algebra methods. We will move briskly through chapters 1-6 of the book. To aid your understanding of the text (which you should read as well as coming to lectures) I will assign a list of suggested homework problems on most Tuesdays. Generally on the following Thursday before 6:00 pm I shall post to the class webpage a set of even-numbered problems (a subset of previously assigned suggested homework) to be turned in on usually the following Tuesday. It is your responsibility to check the course webpage on Thursdays for the homework assignments! This constitutes the assigned homework. Along with the assigned homeworks, of which there will be about 11 assignments (the lowest score of which will be dropped) constituting 17.5% of the course grade, there will be three hour exams tentatively to be held on the following Thursdays: February 17, March 31, and April 28. The hour exams will be held in class and each exam is worth 17.5% of the grade. The final exam (30% of course grade) is on Friday, May 13, from 1:30-4:30 in 447 Altgeld Hall. Note that if for some excusable reason you miss one of the assignments, you must have the absence documented by a letter from the emergency dean to receive credit for the assignment.
