This course is an introduction to selected areas of mathematical sciences through application to modeling and soluition of problems involving networks, circuits, trees, linear programming, random samples, regression, probability, inference, voting systems, game theory, symmetry and tilings, geometric growth, comparison of algorithms, codes, and data management. We will be covering chapters 1, 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14 this semester with additional sections as time permits.

Announcements

The final exam will be cumulative. To prepare, you should study your quizzes and exams. Also, we have covered a bit of new material. I suggested you try problems: 13, 14, 21, 22 on page 498 after Monday's class. After Wednesday's class, you should try problems: 23, 24, 25 on page 500.
