Course Calendar

NOTE: Your web browser needs to have JavaScript enabled in order to use the calendar displayed on the left hand side of this web page.

To see the details for a certain date, simply hover your mouse over the date and you should see a small information box appear with any details pertaining to that date. Exam dates are marked in red, quiz dates are marked in green.

Calculators

While graphing calculators are not required, they may be useful for quick calculations on the homework. No calculator will be allowed on any exams or quizzes, so do not become too dependent on them.

Homework

Homework will be assigned weekly and the assignments will be collected at the beginning of class on the day they are due. A selection of the assigned problems will be graded each week.

Click here to view the list of homework problems and assignments. You should attempt the problems as soon as the sections are covered in lecture. Try to finish the problems for each section before a lecture is given over new material.

Quizzes

There are 6 quizzes (10 points per quiz). Each quiz will cover material from approximately the previous two weeks. The problems will be similar to those from the homework. The quiz dates will be marked in green on the calendars displayed on the left.

  • Sept 9: 1.1-1.4
  • Sept 23: 1.5, 1.7, 2.1, 2.2
  • Oct 21: 3.1, 3.2, 3.3
  • Nov 4: 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.5
  • Dec 2: 5.1-5.3

Exams

There will be two in-class exams given during the main lecture days, and a cumulative final exam. Regular in-class exams are worth 100 points and the final exam is worth 180 points. The hour exams will be given after chapters 2 and 4 are completed. The dates will be announced at least a week in advance and will be marked in red on the calendars displayed on the left. We will use Noyes 300 (our regular classroom) for our exams.

  • Exam 2: Nov 11th - Sections: 3.1-3.3, 4.1-4.3, 4.5-4.6

Special Needs

If you have special needs requiring accomodations in the classroom or during exams, please provide the official documentation of your specific needs by September 15, 2008.

Grades

Your grades will consist of homework (60 points), 6 quizzes (totaling 60 points), the two regular exams (each 100 points), and the final exam (180 points). This gives 500 points for the entire semester.

It is your responsibility to make sure that all grade descrepencies be cleared in a timely manner. Once any graded quiz or exam has been returned, even if you were not present to accept it that day, you have seven days from that date to dispute any discrepencies.
