Math 221 ED1/ED2 (Fall 2006)

Calculus 1 Discussion / Recitation

Basic Information

What is the Discussion/Recitation Session For?
Mainly, I will be answering questions about the homework (to prepare for quizes... see below). In certain circumstances, I will be introducing material which Dr. Ealy does not have time to cover in class! Attendence is expected!!!

Grading: Grading policy is summarized in the following table.

Quizzes each Thursday 25%
Exam 1 Monday, September 25th 15%
Exam 2 Monday, October 23 15%
Exam 3 Wednesday, November 29th 15%
Final exam Wednesday, December 13th, 1:30-4:30pm 30%

Homework: Homework will be assigned every Wednesday durring lecture, and the assignments will be posted on Dr. Ealys website. The homework will not be collected and graded, BUT we will have a quiz weekly (see below!). It is STRONGLY suggested that you form study groups and work together. Math is a subject that is better learned by talking about it, not just hearing a couple of teachers talk to you about it.

Quizzes: Every Thursday we will have a quiz over material covered in the homework. Some, if not all, of the quiz will come straight from your homework problems!!!! So, even though the homework will not be graded, IT IS IN YOUR BEST INTEREST TO DO IT AS PREPERATION FOR THE QUIZ!!!!! Note: there will be NO makeup quizes. However, your lowest three quiz scores will be droped! Also, I have been instructed by Dr. Ealy to base your grade primarily on the explanation of your work involved in the solution, and only secondarily on the correctness of your final answer!
