Dr. Bob's Math 120 Calculus
Organization of the Course

Prof. Robert G. Muncaster
Fall 1999

This course will be in large lecture style 3 hours a week (MWF) and in small group discussion sections 2 hours a week (TTh). The large lectures will be held in 314 Altgeld Hall. The lectures will start crisply on the hour, so please be prompt. In addition, the course will have the following elements:

Discussion Sections

You are each assigned to a Tuesday-Thursday discussion section with a capable teaching assistant. That is where homework is submitted, quizzes are written, and all papers are returned. It is your best chance to ask homework and other questions in a small-group setting. Your discussion section leader will hold office hours for additional assistance (see website for schedule) and will meet by appointment at other times. Be sure to see one of us if something is bothering you: a grade on a particular problem, your progress in the course, etc.

Quizzes and Hourly Exams

There will be either a quiz (Thursdays) or an exam (Fridays) every week. The attached schedule tells you the exact dates and topics of the quizzes and exams. It can also be found on the website under "Syllabus." Quizzes are given during the first 15 minutes of the discussion session.

Homework Assignments

Homework will be assigned each Monday and Wednesday, with solutions due on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. A small number of problems, selected at random will be graded. Solutions to all the problems assigned will be posted on the website shortly after the assignment is turned in.

Final Exam

The final exam will be comprehensive. It will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 pm on Monday Dec 13.
