Week 1 (Monday - classes begin, Friday - last day to drop without a grade of W)
Jan 10 (M) Maple Lab A: The SAM Network and Maple, Mastery Quiz #1
Jan 11 (Tu) If you took math 141 at USC last semester, bring your ID to LeConte 413 in order to get a free copy of the 8th edition of your calculus textbook.
Jan 12 (W) To review the important integration techniques discussed last semester, do as many of the following problems as time allows. Section 6.2 - #15-35, section 6.3 - #9-48, section 6.6 - #3-27, section 6.8 - #23-48.
Jan 13 (Th) There will be a quiz tomorrow on sections 6.2, 6.3, 6.6, 6.8, and the handout on all the basic memorized integral formulas.
Jan 14 (F) Read section 7.1, but keep on practicing your integrals from the chapter 6 homework.
Week 2 (Monday is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Day)
Jan 18 (Tu) Read section 7.2. In 7.1 do #5, 6, 11, 13, 14, 15, 31.
Jan 19 (W) In 7.2 do #3, 4, 5, 11, 13, 23, 25, 43. Draw a line with y-intercept (0,h) and x-intercept (r,0) and do the following: (1) find an equation for this line; (2) shade in the first quadrant region bounded by this line, the x-axis, and the y-axis; (3) revolve this region about y-axis; (4) use a definite integral to determine the volume of this resulting cone.
Jan 20 (Th) Read 7.3. In 7.3 do #1, 3, 5, 12, 15, 21. Tomorrow's in-class quiz will cover section 7.1. Tomorrow's take-home quiz will cover sections 7.2-7.3.
Jan 21 (F) No new homework. Quiz 3 was given as a take-home to be turned in at the beginning of Tuesday's class. For a copy go to our course webpage.

Feb 8 (Tu) Read 8.1-8.2. Section 8.2 is very important so read it carefully. Do #2, 6, 10, 16, 18 from 8.2.
Feb 9 (W) There will be a quiz Friday on section 8.2. For homework do #4, 14, 20, 24, 30, 32 from section 8.2.
Feb 10 (Th) For homework, read 8.3 and do #2, 4, 8, 10, 24, 38 from that section. Tomorrow's quiz on 8.2 will be given near the end of class tomorrow - you may take it home if you need more time.
Feb 11 (F) Turn in quiz 5 at the beginning of Tuesday's class. From 8.3, do #11, 13, 17, 33, 43.
Week 6
Feb 14 (M) Maple Lab E: Applications of the Definite Integral, Mastery Quiz #4
Feb 15 (Tu) Read section 8.4 and do #2, 4, 14, and 18 from that section. There will be a quiz Thursday on sections 8.3 and 8.4.
Feb 16 (W) Read section 8.5 and do #10, 12, 16, and 30 from that section. Prepare for tomorrow's quiz.
Feb 17 (Th) Pick a few problems in 8.5 to get some more practice with partial fractions.
Feb 18 (F) Pick some more partial fraction problems to do.

Feb 21 (M) Maple Lab F: Piecewise-Defined Functions, Mastery Quiz #5, Project #1 - Goblet Design (due Feb 28)
Feb 22 (Tu) For more 8.5 practice do #6, 9, 11, 25, 29, 31. There will be a quiz Thursday on this section. For homework read section 8.8 and do #3, 6, 8, 17, 18, 19, 49 from that section.
Feb 23 (W) No new homework. Tomorrow's quiz is in-class on partial fractions. Friday's quiz will be take-home on improper integrals. On Friday, you should come to class, but we'll move to a Maple lab to spend the time on your projects.
Feb 24 (Th) We discussed section 8.7 on numerical approximation to definite integrals along with the error term. This will not covered on the quizzes or tests - you should mainly just be aware that we have different techniques for bounding the error of an approximation.

Mar 1 (Tu) Read sections 10.1-10.2. In 10.1 do #9, 12, 15, 22, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31. In 10.2 do #4, 8, 18, 23. These sections will be included on Friday's test.
Mar 2 (W) Friday's test will cover 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, 8.5, 8.8, 10.1, 10.2. I'll be in my office today at 3:30 and will have a help session tomorrow starting at 6:00PM.

Week 12
Mar 28 (M) Maple Lab J: Taylor Polynomials II, Mastery Quiz #8, Project #2 - Optimal Selection of Base Point (orig. due Apr 4, but Pavel has extended the due date)
Mar 29 (Tu) Finish the homework from 10.6-10.8. The quiz covering these sections will be on Friday.
Mar 30 (W) Read 10.10 and do #1, 2, 6, 10, 15, 19, 29 from that section. Friday's quiz will cover 10.6-10.8, but you may use the shortcut methods from 10.10 if it helps. One week from today we will have a quiz on 10.9-10.10. One week from Friday we will have a test on 10.3-10.10.
Mar 31 (Th) From 10.7, read about the remainder (or error) when using Taylor polynomials to approximate a function. Do #32, 40, 41 from 10.7. Read 10.9 and do #4, 16. Tomorrow's quiz is on 10.6-10.8. Think about coming to the Integration Bee tomorrow at 5:00PM in LeConte 412. You will get to form teams which compete against other math 142 students on integration problems. This will be fun, good practice for the final exam, and you can win lots of prizes!
Apr 1 (F) Quiz 11 was given as a take-home due Tuesday. For homework, do the problems from today's worksheet of practice problems.
