About the piece

Design idea

The groom's name (Imad which means "pillar") is written in light blue vertically top to down. The bride's name (Sadia which means "fortunate") is written in pink horizontally. The "meem" of "Imad" is enclosed by the "'ain" of "Imad". All the strokes are either concentric are parallel to the axes.

Is this a scan of the real thing? Yes and no. We finished this thing while driving down to southern Illinois where the wedding was. When we arrived at the hotel which was the venue of the wedding, I went up to the receptionist and asked them if they could make a photocopy of it before we attach it to the wedding gift we had brought. They didn't have a copier so they ran it through the fax machine and made a copy that way. That bent the card a little, so we had to straighten it afterwards. The copy was of course black and white. We colorized it later using Photoshop to colors that are pretty good approximations of the real colors we used.
