Text: Methods of Finite Mathematics by J.W. Brown and D.R. Sherbert.

Course Description: Introduction to the basic ideas of logic, set theory, probability, vectors and matrices. Prerequisite: Math012 or equivalent.

Class Attandance: Attendance is expected.

Homework: There will be no homework, but study problems will be assigned each day. These problems are possible candidates for that week's quiz.

Quizzes: A quiz will be given every Friday. Makeup quizzes will only be given if you notify me before the quiz by email. To take a makeup quiz, you must present official documentation excusing your absence before the makeup quiz. The lowest quiz score will be dropped at the end of the semester.

Exams: There will be 3 common exams given during the evening at 7pm for this course. The dates are Wednesdays, February 13, March 12, and April 16. If necessary, a conflict exam will be offered at 5:30 pm on the same exam days. Conflict documentation must be presented at least 10 days prior to the exam date. This documentation must verify the other UIUC exam or course that is meeting during our exam. Please note that class will be cancelled on Fridays, February 15, March 14, April 18. The final exam is not a common exam. Our final exam will be given 8:00-11:00 AM, Thursday, May 8 in room 147 Altgeld Hall.

Grading:

ALEKS: 5 %, Quizzes: 16 %, Three midterm exams: 16 % each, Final: 31 %.

Compass: You will be able to view your grades on Compass, UIUC's online course information program. I encourage you to check your grades frequently, and please notify me immediately if you have any questions.
