Office hours:Wednesday: 4-5 pm, Thursday: 4-5 pm, or by appointment.
Grading policy: Total scores 600 pts. Comprehensive final exam: 250 pts; Midterm scores: 2x75 pts=150 pts; Homework and quizzes: 10x20 pts=200 pts.
Homework and quiz policy: There will be 14 HW assignments. Assignments # 1,3,5,...,13 will be collected and (randomly) selected problems will be graded. Assignments # 2,4,...,14 will not be collected. Instead, a 15 minutes quiz with two problems from that assignment will be given.
Only the best 10 (out of 14) scores will count towards the final score in the class. As a result HW extension or make-up quizzes are not be allowed.

HW # 1 (due Thursday Jan 29): Section 1.2 (page 25) Exercises 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 11. Wait the lesson on Tuesday Jan 27 before doing 7, 8, 9 and 11.
HW #2 (quiz on Thursday Feb 5): Wait the lesson on Tuesday Feb 3 before doing 5,6,7,8 and 9.
HW #3 (due Thursday Feb 12): Wait the lesson on Tuesday Feb 10 before doing 5,6,7,8.
HW #4 (Quiz Thursday Feb 19): Section 1.7 Exercises 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 23, 25, 27, 29, 30, 33, 35, 37, 39. It is very important for you to read carefully section 1.7 in the book and the proof of Theorem 7 (at the end of the section).
