Course Content

This course is based on the second edition of the textbook Mathematical Logic by Ebbinghaus, Flum and Thomas. Most of Part A of the textbook will be discussed. I will post what was and will be covered in each class on the Illinois Compass site of this course.

Course Policies

Homework:

Homework will be assigned weekly, and collected at the beginning of the class each Friday.
Each assignment will be announced in class and on the Illinois Compass site of this course.
Late homework will not be accepted. If you are prevented from attending the Friday lecture, you can submit your homework by putting it in my mailbox in 250 Altgeld Hall PRIOR to class meeting time.
Note that solutions must be written clearly and legibly: If we can not read, we can not grade it. Moreover, please write your name on every page you are handing in. If you are submit more than one sheet, please staple your homework.

Exams:

There will be two midterm exams, given in class, and one final. The dates will be announced in advance during class and on this website.

Grades:

The course grade will be the average of your homework, midterm exams, and final exam grades, weighted as follows:
20% Homework (the lowest homework score will be dropped)
20% each Midterm exam
40% final exam

Letter grades will be assigned according to: A-/A/A+ 90%, B-/B/B+ 80%, C-/C/C+ 70%, D/D+ 55%, F for less than 55%. This may be adjusted downwards if necessary.

You should feel free to ask me at any time for information about your performance.
