Text: Calculus: Early Transcendental Functions, 3rd edition, Smith and Minton (Single Variables Volume)
Homework: During each lecture I will be posting suggested ``homework problems.'' There will also be on-line homework on MathZone. They will be posted here. These problems will not be collected nor graded. At least 30% of every exam will be taken from these problems (exactly as they appear in the text) and another 30% will be very similar (usually with the numbers changed). It is hoped that you will work on the problems both on your own and in small groups. Some class time in your TA sections on Tuesday and Thursdays will also be spent going over solutions to some of the more difficult or confusing exercises.
Quizzes There will be a short quiz every Thursday in your T.A. section. They will be primarily taken from the suggested homework problems. The lowest two quizzes will be dropped. No makeup quizzes will be offered.
Exams: There will be three exams during the semester. Exams are not curved but may be scaled. The final is on Wednesday of Finals week and NO special arrangements for taking it early will be made. The dates of the exams are:
| Exam I | Friday, September 19 | through 1.6 and 2.2 |
| Exam II | Friday, October 17 | through section 3.1 and 3.8 |
| Exam III | Friday, November 14 | through 4.5 |
| Final | Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1:30-4:30 p.m. | Cumulative through chapter 5 |
Grades: Grades are not curved and will be determined as follows:
| Quizzes (lowest 2 dropped) | 10% |
| Midterms (3 at 20% each) | 60% |
| Final Exam | 30% |
