Course Description

The aim of this course is to understand the mathematical aspects or several modern, real-world problems. It involves mathematical modeling and problem solving techniques relating to networks, trees, linear programming, random samples, regression, probability, inference, voting systems, networks, circuits, critical paths, scheduling, game theory, symmetry and patterns, geometric growth, comparison of algorithms, codes, and data management. Prerequiste : Three years of high school mathematics including two years of algebra and one year of geometry.

Grading

Quizzes :   15 %
Group Project :   10 %
Hour Exams (3) :   15 % Each
Final :   30 %

Homeworks

Homework will be assigned every week. Homeworks will not be graded. However, the quizzes will have one question from the assigned homework. Do not hesitate to ask for help if you have difficulties with the homework or the class material.

Quizzes

There will be 11 quizzes in all. Make up quizzes will be given only if an official document excusing your absence is turned in.

Group Project

Exams

There will be three one hour exams which are scheduled to be held on 30th September, 28th October and 2nd December, 2005 in class hour.
The final exam will be held on Monday, December 12,2005 7:00 - 10:00 PM.
