| Text | : Linear Algebra and its Applications Third Edition by David Lay |
The aim of the course is to understand the basic techniques of linear
algebra namely solving systems of linear equations, working with matrices,
understanding definitions of vector spaces and subspaces, computing
eigenvalues and eigenvectors, learning about orthogonality, orthogonal
projections and the method of least squares.
Homework will be assigned every week. The homeworks will not be
graded. However, the quizzes will have one question from the
assigned homework. There will be 9 quizzes in all and possibly
an assignment worth 10 points each. The eight best scores will be
counted.
There will be three one hour exams which are
scheduled (tentatively ) to be held on 2nd March, 1st April
and 27th April, 2004.
The final exam will be held on 10th May, 2003
from 1:30 -4:30 PM. The total grade for the semester will be
