Syllabus


The aim of the course is to understand the basic techniques of linear algebra namely solving systems of linear equations, working with matrices, understanding definitions of vector spaces and subspaces, computing eigenvalues and eigenvectors, learning about orthogonality, orthogonal projections and the method of least squares.

Grading

Homework will be assigned every week. The homeworks will not be graded. However, the quizzes will have one question from the assigned homework. There will be 9 quizzes in all and possibly an assignment worth 10 points each. The eight best scores will be counted.
There will be three one hour exams which are scheduled (tentatively ) to be held on 2nd March, 1st April and 27th April, 2004.
The final exam will be held on 10th May, 2003 from 1:30 -4:30 PM. The total grade for the semester will be assigned based on your score out of 300.
