Text: David C. Lay, Linear Algebra and its Applications, 3rd Edition, Addison-Wesley, 2002.

Course description:

Systems of linear equations, matrices and inverses, determinants, and a glimpse at vector spaces, Eigenvalues and eigenvectors

Grading policy:

Quizzes (20 percent). There will be quizzes every week. There are no make up quizzes and missed quizzes count as 0. One of the lowest quizzes will be dropped to allow for emergency situations.

Midterm Exams: (45 percent). There will be 3 midterms (15 percent each) which will count totally for 45 percent of your final grade. They will be given in the regular lecture room. If illness or any other reason prevents you to take the exam you need to notify me and I will notify you with the options you have provided only if you  have official letters from your McKinley doctor (In case you were ill) and a letter from emergency dean.

1. First Midterm Exam: Thursday, September 25th, In class 50 min exam, Covering all the material in chapter 1 except sections: 1.6 and 1.10

1. Second Midterm Exam: Tuesday, November 4th, In class 50 min exam, Covering all the material covered in class up to the end of section 4.2

Final Exam (35 percent). There will be a comprehensive final exam at, 7:00-10:00 PM, Tuesday, December 16

Attendance Policy. You are expected to come to all lectures. I will take attendance during the lectures and they will count for your final grade, (I may down-grade you if I realize you frequently miss the classes).

Grade Scale: The grading scale is as follows:

A: 90 and above

B: at least 80 and less than 90

C: at least 70 and less than 80

D: at least 60 and less than 70

F: less than 60

Academic integrity: The academic integrity policy will be strictly enforced on all quizzes and exams, and any misconduct will result in an immediate grade of 0 for that assignment.
