Assigned readings, daily homework, and in-class group work

The final exam has been graded and final course grades are available at the above link.

The average on the final exam was 69.8/100. The curve on the final exam was as follows: 88-100 A, 76-87 B, 64-75 C, 52-63 D, 0-51 F.

To compute final course grades, I used a curve which was a weighted average of the curves used on the individual midterm exams, the final exam, and the in-class work, homework and labs. This turned out to be the same curve as used for the final exam. Officially, the ranges of scores corresponding to various letter grades were:

96 - 100 A+
92 - 95 A
88 - 91 A-

84 - 87 B+
80 - 83 B
76 - 79 B-

72 - 75 C+
68 - 71 C
64 - 67 C-

60 - 63 D+
56 - 59 D
52 - 55 D-

0 - 51 F

Solutions to the second midterm exam are available here.

The second midterm exam will be held on Thursday, March 3 from 6-7pm in 245 Altgeld Hall.

NOTE NEW ROOM AND TIME FOR THIS EXAM!

This is the mastery exam; you will be expected to complete it without using a calculator. It will cover sections 6.1, 6.2, 7.1, 7.2, 2.5, 4.1, 6.3, 7.4 and 8.1. It will not include material on area of surfaces of revolution, work (section 7.3) or partial fractions (section 8.2).

You must achieve a score of 85 percent or higher on this exam. If you do not pass on the first try, you will be given three chances to retake the exam with a ten point penalty assessed for each retake. If you do not pass the exam on the fourth try, your recorded grade for this exam will be zero.

Depending on the number of students who pass the exam on the first try, I may devote a later class day to the first mastery exam retake. Students requiring more than one retake will need to schedule a time with me to sit for the retake.

The first midterm exam will be held on Monday, February 14 in class.

It will cover sections 6.1, 6.2, and the handout on Simpson's Rule, as well as sections 7.1, 7.2, Chapter 7 Interlude, and the handout on surface area.

The deadline for confirming your proposed project with me is Friday, February 11.
