Please come to class on time. If, on a rare occasion, you must be late,
please enter quietly and take an easily available seat.
Stay for the entire class period. I will end the lecture promptly
10 minutes before the hour. If, on a rare occasion, you must leave
early for another obligation, sit near an exit and slip out quietly.
Turn off cell phones during class.
Feel free to ask questions during lecture by raising your hand.
(In a big class, if you have a question, chances are that at least ten others also want to know the answer.)
If you need to discuss anything briefly with me, come to the front
of the class after lecture. If you need to talk about sometime more involved,
come to office hours or make an appointment.
Check regularly for announcements on the course webpage.
If I get multiple emails
asking the same question, I will post the answer there instead of
replying to everyone.
Read the book and try the homework problems before coming to class. Simliarly, prepare for section by deciding what questions you want to ask.
Plan to work at least 6 hours a week outside of classtime for this course (More work usually means better grade!).
Keep all of your graded work until after the end of the semester.
Check the link on the course webpage for your scores.
Contact me as soon as possible if an unusual, serious situation
interferes with your class work (such as a major illness or family
emergency).
Contact me or your TA promptly with any concerns you have about the course so
that I can try to address them. If you wait too long, a small problem
may turn into a big problem.
DO NOT
Talk to others during the lecture unless we are doing an in-class
problem. If your talking is disturbing other students, I will ask you to leave.
Read the newspaper, surf the web, etc. during lecture.
Expect the TA or instructor to give you private tutoring if you miss
class. In this case, it is your responsibility to learn the material
from the book.
Cheat on homeworks, quizzes, or exams in any way.
My thanks to Dr. Kim Whittlesey for preparing these tips.
