This is the general section BL1 web-site providing information relevant to all discussion sections. Math 230 now includes two lectures (MW) and two discussion sections (TR) per week. The 28 lectures include 24 lectures on new material, 3 exams, and 1 end-of-term final exam review day. The discussion sessions discuss homework assignments from all the lectures and include review hours for the hour exams. Every Thursday -of a week on which there is no exam- there will be a quiz. The quizzes are 15-20 minutes long and contain 2 problems. The first one is on September 1. No calculators may be used on exams or quizzes. If you miss a quiz or an hour exam, contact the instructor preferably ahead of time. If you missed one quiz, then the next one counts double. If you miss more than 3 in total, then for all missed quizzes after the third, your grade will be zero. Make-up exams/quizzes will be arranged for the students who informed the instructor beforehand, and for those who missed an exam/quiz due to a medical or other emergency and can provide documented proof of it, e.g., a doctor's receipt.
